Polperro Dolphin Swims

What We Do:

Polperro Dolphin Swims is owned and operated by the Muir family. They have been involved with the dolphin-based tourism industry in Port Phillip Bay since its foundations in 1986, when the Dolphin Research Project (now known as the Dolphin Research Institute) approached the Muirs because of an interest in running dolphin swims and were intrigued by the dolphins apparent attraction to the Muir’s boat, Polperro. The first commercial dolphin swim operation in Port Phillip Bay was subsequently born. Although it is a commercial tourism operation, the underlying ambition of Polperro Dolphin Swims is a commitment to the welfare and preservation of the dolphins and their habitat. Polperro Dolphin Swims provides the very unique and rare opportunity for people to interact with a wild animal in its own natural environment. Passengers leave with a heightened awareness of an animal and a habitat about which they may have previously known very little. It is hoped that this will result in a greater overall community commitment to the protection of Port Phillip Bay’s marine environment and its dolphin population.
