The interactive map on the homepage has been divided into significant areas and regions to allow the user to explore particular sections of the Victorian coastline.

These significant areas contain some distinguishing and unique natural features such as habitats and species as well as various threatening processes. Some of the significant areas also have marine national parks and sanctuaries within the designated map boundary (dotted yellow line).

The significant areas include: Bridgewater Bay; Portland Bay and Deen Marr; Port Campbell region; Cape Otway; West Coast Port Phillip Bay; Port Phillip Heads; Northern Port Phillip Heads; North Arm Westernport; Corner Inlet; Apollo Bay to Angelsea; Flinders Honeysuckle Merricks and Cape Schanck; Phillip Island, Summerland Peninsula and Seal Rocks; Cape Patterson to Venus Bay; Wilsons Promontory; Ninety Mile Beach; The Gippsland Lakes; Bemm Reef; and Mallacoota Intet and Gabo Island.
